Course

Start - Church of the Nazarene parking lot, Grand Canyon drive and State Route 4 in White Rock, NM.

Directions to start: from Santa Fe, drive north on NM 84/285 (St. Francis Drive). At Pojoaque, take Rt. 502 toward Los Alamos. Take NM 4 to White Rock. In White Rock, the start is at the second traffic light.

The course is a loop, on paved roads, past the Bandelier National Monument and Los Alamos National Laboratory. All races follow the same course for the first 25 miles (Map - 500k). The ultra and 50-mile relay are two-lap runs. The course starts at an altitude of 6550 ft and rises to 7800 ft. The total rise in the 25 mile loop is 1950 ft. 50-mile relay handoffs will be at 12.5, 25, and 37.5 miles. Marathon relay handoffs will be at approximately 3.3 mile intervals (near aid stations).

Both courses are USA T&F certified.

Aid stations: Electrolyte drink, water, and oranges at approximately 3 mile intervals and at the finish. Other beverages will be available at the finish.

Course closure: Aid stations and traffic control can only be maintained for a 10-hour 50 mile pace (3:30 PM). We recommend you arrange your own trail car and support if you might remain on the course longer.  The finish line will remain open until all runners are finished.

Note - Pajarito Road is closed to vehicles without a LANL badge holder.  Coordinate with the race director to transport relay personnel to the handoff points on Pajarito Rd.

Rules

All runners must follow the course precisely, staying on the left side of the road at all times except when approaching a turn when a cross-over to the right side in preparation for crossing the intersection is recommended. Please exercise caution when crossing and obey official's instructions at all times.

50-mile runners and 50-mile relay teams must complete the loop twice, including a short loop down Grand Canyon Rd. Detailed race maps will be included in the race packets. Aid stations and traffic control can only be maintained until 3:30 PM. We recommend you arrange your own trail car and support if you might remain on the course longer. 50-mile runners must be weighed at the registration desk at 5 AM on race day to compete.

Relay teams: A signed registration for each team member must be submitted. Only relay teams with the correct number of participants may compete officially for awards. Un-official participation is allowed if all members are properly registered for the race. Signed entry forms for late substitutes must be in the race director's hands before the start of the race. Race packets must be picked up by a single member of the team who will distribute the packet contents to the team.

Each team member is responsible for being familiar with and following the correct race course. All handoffs must take place at the proper locations as indicated on the maps included with the race packets. Team members may only run a single leg of the race for the team to compete officially. However, 50-mile runners and marathoners may serve as the first leg of a relay team. Violation of any of these procedures will result in disqualification. The procedures in this brochure take precedence over any instructions received out on the course with the exception of instructions given explicitly by the race director.

Note - Pajarito Road is closed to vehicles without a LANL badge holder.  Coordinate with the race director to transport relay personnel to the handoff points on Pajarito Rd.
